The parish boundary is walked every 21 years and this year will take place on 27th August 2016. This 20 mile walk dates back to at least 1686, and is a tradition that we wish to maintain, to remember a long history and to keep it alive for those who come after.
As previously, everyone who completes the walk will receive a commemorative badge and those who have completed the walk before, will receive a certificate. At the end of the walk all participants will be provided with a meal and awards will be made to the oldest and youngest male and female parishioners who complete the route. To help ensure that sufficient badges, certificates and food are provided please could you inform us of your intention to undertake the walk by providing your name and the number of times you have completed the walk, to Karen Atkinson by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephoning 016974 78546. This information needs to be sent BEFORE 15TH JULY 2016.
On the day of the walk you will need to bring a completed and signed registration form (Registration Form here) to the registration secretaries at the Parish Hall for each person undertaking the walk. Registration forms can also be found at both Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket Post Offices, Denton House and Priests Mill. Registration will begin at 8.30am with the walk starting at 9.30am.
Please note, all participants will be provided with a laminated map of the route on the day of the walk.
For those who do not feel able to undertake the full 20 miles, transport will be available to Greenhead at the start of the walk and from Mosedale back to the Parish Hall, if required. The Mosedale Coffee Shop at the Quaker Meeting House will be open during the course of the walk, where refreshments can be purchased, water bottles topped up and toilet facilities used. At the end of the walk all participants will be provided with a traditional hot meal in the Parish Hall, which will be available from 3.00pm onwards. Awards will presented at 6.00pm. (Timetable for the Day here).
To help you prepare for the day, guidance and information for walkers has been developed to ensure this is an enjoyable and safe family event (Safety Information for Walkers here) (Essential Equipment List here) ().
Caldbeck History Society will be providing an interesting display on the history of the walk at the Parish Hall in the Elm room and this will be available throughout the day.
As a large number of people are expected to take part, please share transport where possible and park as directed by traffic marshals.
Please keep checking the Parish website as any updates will be posted here.
