Parish Council News

The Parish Council met on the 25th July and amongst the topics they discussed at the meeting were Land at Whelpo Bridge Farm, Caldbeck public toilets, Fellside parking and Speeding Traffic . The full meeting minutes can be found on the Parish Council website https://www.Caldbeck.org.uk/parish-council/

Land at Whelpo Bridge Farm

The Council listened to the planning application from the owners of Whelpo Bridge Farm as to the need for accommodation at the farm. It accepted that there would be road safety and animal welfare benefits from living on site and following discussion agreed to submit no objection to the Lake District National Park Planning Authority.

Caldbeck Public Toilets

The transfer of the toilets to the Parish Council from Allerdale Borough Council is currently with the solicitors and will hopefully be concluded shortly. The Council is looking into whether it would be more cost effective to construct a new set of toilets or upgrade the current facilities. The current facilities have no electricity supply and any upgrade, such as inclusion of a disabled toilet is limited by the existing buildings footprints. New facilities are constrained by available sites, construction/installation costs and available funding (including grants).

Fellside parking

The Council has had a draft plan drawn showing an organised car parking arrangement at Fellside. It was agreed to consult with local residents with the intention being that following the consultation the Council would then decide if the cost of creating the car park would be justifiable based on potential returns from a donations box. If it was the Council would then submit a planning application.

Speeding Traffic

The traffic management team will be undertaking speed monitoring checks in Hesket Newmarket and Caldbeck over the summer. The dates of which are yet to be confirmed.
