Report on Tony’s Big Ride, Tony Bolton’s Fundraiser in August 2017 for the Alzheimer’s Society
Tony Bolton’s Fundraiser for the Alzheimers Society – Tony’s Big Ride
Lakes and Dales loop in a day (196 miles!)
Tony completed his ride in early August. He made good time and with no mishaps or injuries! He set off with a neighbour at 4am in total darkness, and Dave cycled with him for the first 80 miles and then he did about 20 solo, and met Carol, Harry and another friend at Kirkby Lonsdale. They had a picnic together then Tony and Graham set off on the last 100 miles. Carol and Harry stayed in the south Lakes as a back up for them, and they met up in Penrith at 9pm, where Harry joined them for the last 20 miles. Carol followed in the car with the headlights on as it was getting quite dark! They got to the pub in Hesket at about 10:30 for a very well deserved pie and pint. It was fantastic weather all the way with only one spritz of rain at Loweswater. Tony seemed fine the next morning (although he admitted he might not want to sit on his saddle for a few days).>
> Tony was interviewed on the Local BBC Look North and has had several articles in local magazines and newspapers and has so far raised over £2000 with money still coming in.
The Lakes and Dales Loop is a cycle route that circumnavigates most of the Lake District National Park as well as the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It passes through Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket. Tony Bolton from Caldbeck undertook this gruelling challenge to raise as much as he can to help combat Alzheimer’s Disease. More and more people year on year are affected by this terrible disease. His father has been battling Alzheimer’s / Dementia for nearly a decade and is now in the final stages and can no longer speak, recognise people or do the basics that we all take for granted.
Thank you for helping Tony to raise money for the Alzheimers Society to support the work that they do in investing in research to providing dementia care, cause, cure and prevention as well as care. Campaigning at all levels to ensure that there is greater awareness at all levels within our society as well as providing local services and support to people with dementia, their families, friends and carers.
