Results of the Millhouse Cake Competition
Millhouse Cake Competition in aid of Public Access Defibrillators.
Held on Saturday 15th October, we were delighted to receive over 100 entries. A princely sum of over £ 550 was raised towards a PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATOR for the area.
Bill Tweddell did make a splendid chocolate cake and arrived in full chef's regalia to deliver it, the judges Gillian Potts and Eileen Wilson were worried about driving home after tasting it! Though Highly Commended by the judges was not quite good enough to beat award winning Jonty Brames excellent entry! They were so impressed by all the entries for the Men Only Chocolate Cake Class which was of a very high standard. Second prize went to Desmond Groves and third to Alan Armstrong. We had 12 men's entries including those from David Kerry, Simon Hewitt, Carl Brown, David Kirkwood, Philip Monkhouse, Shane Ostle and Giles Stevenson.
We had 21 entries in a well contested Tea bread class with winners being Margaret Morris, Susan Armstrong and Sheila Hough.
Lemon Drizzle Cake attracted 17 entries with the first three prizes going to Annette Hewitt, Cathy Bell and Sue Braithwaite.
The Coffee Cake class had 11 entries with a Yorkshire entry from Annette Nicholson taking first prize second to Evelyn Tickle and third was Cathy Bell.
Gingerbread was again a huge class with a further 18 entries, first was Eileen Paterson second Kate Dixon and third Annette Hewitt
There were eight carrot cakes first prize to Margaret Morris with newcomer Emma Redfern taking second prize and third to Eileen Paterson.
The Children's Cup Cake class was a very attractive section with nine entries the first prize went to Matthew Bates, keeping it in the family second to Lauren Bates and third to Mae Redfern
The Best Baker Award was given to Jonty Brame for his unique chocolate cake and along with three other prizewinning cakes was auctioned in the Old Crown at HNM that evening raising a further£ 43 for the funds
The raffle which raised £143 was again organised by Cathy Bell from Welton, this year she was assisted by Pat Berridge also from Welton.
Tea, coffee and cakes were served by Helen Kerry, Pat Shaw and Sheila Magee.
Diane Scott, Louise Scott and Annette Hewitt did a splendid job of selling cakes from the hall and three award winning cakes were sold that evening at the Old Crown and along with Jontys prize bubbly made a further £43. Thanks to Jonty, Keith Bridges and Edna and Keith from the pub.
It was a tremendous team effort and everyone said they had enjoyed themselves. We could not do it without you all taking part whether it was helping, baking or buying. Thank you everyone for your support. Next year's date is 20th October 2012
