Caldbeck Young Farmers Club

Caldbeck Young Farmers meet every second Monday of the Month for a general meeting at Caldbeck Cricket Club at 7.30pm. These meetings are to discuss what events are coming up for the club and at county level. As well as meetings in the cricket club we go on many outings, visiting local places. Such as Carlisle Fire Station, Ten Pin Bowling, Lazer quest, Keswick Climbing wall, we have also been on visits to places like Jennings Brewery and Wetherriggs pottery.

As well as events in our local club we compete in lots of competitions at a county level. every year the county have a quiz competition that gets everyones brain working, sports competitions, public speaking competitions, Call my bluff competitions, Carrs billington challenge, brainstrust competition, and lots of others. there are competitions and things to do to suit everyones interests.

As our county is so big, it is split into two halves for young farmers, there is a southern district and a northern district. Every year each district prepares to compete in their district field day. The field day is full of competitions of every kind, from cookery to stock judging, from flower arranging to bricklaying. This day decides which club is the best club in the district. Currently Caldbeck YFC holds the trophy for the winning team on the field day. We are all looking forward to competing again this year to see if we have what it takes to keep it again.

Young Farmers is a fantastic organisation, which has something for everyone to do to suit their interests. Its away of meeting new people, visiting local places and having fun.

Caldbeck Young Farmers do it again

On Saturday 15th May at The Square, Kirklinton. The Northern District Young Farmers Club held their annual field day. This is the highlight of the young farmers calendar this is the event that every club wants to win, and after alot of hard work, nights of pratising everything from stock judging, tug of war, folk dancing, county singing, cake icing, cooking three course meals, sheep clipping, carpentry, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, decorating our club stand to the theme of My Home County and  flower arranging to mention just a few and after a full and very hectic day rushing from one competition to another Caldbeck Young Farmers came out on top for the 5th year running. We had some very good results lots of 1st place tickets which means our members aging from 12 to 26 years now going on to represent Cumbria firstly at Northern Area level which is to be held at the end of June at Clithroe, then at National level, we have members competing at the Malvern Autumn Show in September then at Stonleigh in October, this a fantastic attatchivement for our club and one that we are extremely proud of, as it is an honour to represent not only our club but your county. We also brought some beautiful silverware back to Caldbeck on Saturday The Margaret Dalton Cup for Floral Art, The Lady Nicholson Cup for The Winning Club Exhibit, Lads Tug Of War Trophy, Most Points in the Industrial, Most points under 16 years in the Industrial and The Overall Rally Cup club with the most points on the day. As you can see we all had a fantastic day, had some brilliant results and I'm sure you will agree we have some very talented young people in our club. Well done to everyone who competed you should all be very proud of yourselves  and Good Luck to everyone who is going on to represent Cumbria.
